An Analysis of the Social Geography within Chilliwack's most Diverse Neighborhood.
Navigation
This website is divided into 6 separate pages. Each page is dedicated to a distinct characteristic regarding the neighborhood I have chosen to research. The first page is dedicated to this brief comment on navigation, the introduction to my project, and the bibliography. Each page is then listed in the order of which they should be chronologically viewed. It should be noted that, because of the separate pages, I have used Chicago style citations with footnotes instead of end notes or the MLA style brackets. This decision was enabled to help the reader to easily navigate through the website while still noting the in-text citations.
Introduction
Introduction
The southern side of Chilliwack, mainly the area of Sardis,
Vedder, and Garrison is probably one of the most diverse neighborhoods inside
of Chilliwack, BC. From a booming housing community rich with condos,
apartments, and brand new homes, to a flourishing outdoor shopping hub. These
sites are bordered by Chilliwack’s rising Educational Park which, Business
Chilliwack’s Community Profile Reports as having “several major institutions
including the RCMP Pacific Region Training Centre (PRTC), Canadian Police College,
Justice Institute of BC (JIBC), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA),
University of the Fraser Valley (UFV), and the Agriculture Centre of Excellence
(ACE).”1This neighborhood cannot be mentioned without the inclusion of its recreational
areas, such as the Garrison dog park, the Twin Rinks skating facility, a public
library, and the world renown Vedder River which is consistently used for
biking, jogging, and angling which www.tourismchilliwack.com adimently suggests
is “the most popular river on the lower mainland.”2
This diverse mix of social, civic, cultural, and
recreational institutions, all within a 2 kilometer square area, presents a
unique sub-region inside of Chilliwack that is on a considerable upwards trend
toward economical, social, cultural, and physical development. This project
will outline the mix and demarcations of the many different areas within this
thriving neighborhood, compare each of their unique influences in the community,
and examine the growth and mixture of these popular institutions and how they
affect one another.
